Note: this thread takes place prior to Aqua Assembly Part 4

Hideo sat slumped on the couch, flanked by a lazily-laying Beheeyem and Uxie. It'd been a busy day at the Gym for Hideo and his team, and they finally got a chance to rest. Not that he minded, but free time was at a premium now, and he wasn't ready to go to sleep just yet.

So for the moment, he sat there, listening to the tv as dessert digested through everyone's stomachs. He'd left it on a cartoon channel, just letting whatever show was running go on. Uxie seemed to enjoy this stuff more than he'd expected, and Elga always watched what he "watched", so he could just enjoy himself in the moment.

It was better than listening to the news. That stuff was always depressing to listen to.

She arrives home finally, it had also been a long day for her as well but she was glad at least that she had someone to entertain her once she was home. She had spotted Uxie and Hideo on the couch together watching cartoon shows "Hey Hideo. Hello uxie and Elga." she says as Meloetta and Cobalion stride in behind her. [break][break]

"Oh by the way, Meloetta, hideo. Hideo this is meloetta, princess of the mechanical kingdom? I call her cinderella." she says as she plops onto the couch and meloetta floats over and stares at the group with intense curiosity as she also stares at the T.V, seemingly fascinated with everything she was seeing. [break][break]

Meloetta takes some of the desert and shovels it into her mouth "How was your day?"

The trio each raised a hand as they were respectively greeted. Both Pokemon tilted their head at the new Pokemon Melody showed off - the one they'd battled in the Mechanical Kingdom a while ago.

"Oh, nice," Hideo said. "I guess you had to go through a lot to get her to leave the Kingdom with you. Beat her up enough times 'til she decided to stay in a Pokeball?" The classic method of catching Pokemon, whether as common as a Caterpie or as rare as a Raikou.

"Had a pretty good day today. Just battles at the Gym, and helping teach some people how to clean their Pokemon properly. You'd be surprised how many thought it's just ok to hose them down, without any soap or scrubbing." Proper grooming had been one of the things he'd learned prior to leaving home - in part because his parents actually let him do it, and he had a decent number of Pokemon to work with.

His Lycanroc was the hardest to clean. More so when it was just a Rockruff.

"How 'bout yours? Gotta imagine you got a lot to do as an E4."

"yeah, same one. Or like, a fragment of her?" she says not entirely sure she understood what exactly this meloetta even was, a copy? A new person entirely? Melody felt for her due to the nature of her own situation, was she the original melody? A fragment of the doll? [break][break]

However those thoughts lay to rest as she was too tired to go into deep philosophical thoughts. "That's good! My own day was kinda eh. More of me doing missions and stuff, Aqua related things." she says as he understood that meant she had to keep it secret from him. [break][break]

She pauses though and lets her mind drift from the cartoon for a bit "What's your opinion about Aqua?"

"I've heard of that happening before. Where some really strong Pokemon just give a fragment of themselves. Still really tough in a battle. Either way, congrats on getting her to like you enough to share."

He didn't know what a Meloetta was capable of - other than controlling stuff with music, from what he'd experienced in the Mechanical Kingdom.

The mention of Aqua did remind him she was a part of it; he never really got involved with Aqua itself, so he only really thought of her as an E4 member.

As for his opinion? "Well, Aqua helps fight off the stuff that keeps popping outta nowhere. And there's been a whole lotta that lately, so I guess they're good in my book?" He didn't really know much detail about them - nobody ever gave him any - and his only taste of involvement was that time they had a training battle with Diancie.

"I'm also pretty sure if the League as a whole finds out I got Uxie, Aqua people are gonna try talking to me. Like, about how to work with them, not just casual stuff like we're doing right now. So in a way, I also gotta be careful with them?"

"I mean. Maybe." she said as she started to think on the subject a bit more.[break][break]

She looks up at her ceiling, the light blaring back down on her as she looks down to her phone while squinting and dims the lights. "I mean that depends, do you want to even help aqua or do you still want to remain hidden?" she asks him as she wonders what he's thinking of. [break][break]

"If you want my opinion, I'm pretty sure at least telling the league would be a good idea. They can't protect you from the drk triad if they don't know that the triad would come for you." she tells him as she wonders what he'd do with that information. "But I mean you already know I'd try to help you how I can."

For a moment, he looked in Uxie's direction. Was this just a shard of Uxie, sent to Hoenn? Or was it the real, entire Uxie eating up his cookies?

The only answer he got from Uxie was a small burp.

He turned back towards Melody, squirming a bit as he thought on how to answer. "I dunno…I kinda want to do both? I want to help AQUA, but I don't want to get their attention all that much."

Even if he was a part of the League, there were some parts he wasn't fully comfortable with. Too much attention from the League was a risky thing. "Pretty sure some people wouldn't be too enthusiastic with me getting involved with AQUA either."

A troubling conundrum, to be sure.

He quietly listened to Melody's suggestion, and he couldn't fully disagree with it.

He started with a sigh. "Maybe…I don't want them to know I have Uxie, but you could tell them you know who's got it? And that they're on the League's side?"

Even that much felt like too much, but he was stuck at a wall in finding Azelf. Mesprit's presence was already known, so the Lake Trio being around wasn't much a secret in its own right.

"Then if you find someone that's trustworthy, I could talk to them."

Melody listens to him in earnest, she was concerned for him naturally but she knew it was useless to think that way. "Well, I mean. When has someone not supporting you ever stopped you from going for your dreams? I'm still surprised your parents were ok with you becoming a gym leader." she comments as she found it a little strange. [break][break]

But maybe they had a change of heart? [break][break]

She had liked his idea, such a powerful psychic type could probe her mind easily and they can use that to create a narrative...but..She felt an sting of unease course through her body as she looks at Uxie and realizes what that might entail. "If we do that I could be considered compromised agai-" she blurts out suddenly as she realizes she misspoke in front of Hideo and Uxie and her face easily conveys the expression. [break][break]

Melody mentioning his parents sent a chill through Hideo's spine. He had to go back to the response he'd already planned out when someone grilled him about it; "It wasn't easy. I had to go back in person to talk to them. It didn't go so well, but I…was able to convince them to give it. Seven badges are kinda hard to reject."

Nobody could find out the real way he'd gotten it. And convincing them with words had been his initial intention; what really went down wasn't planned at all.

What Melody said after, though, caught him completely off-guard - but he did see it as a chance to change the topic, and by Arceus he was gonna take it. "Compromised? What'dya mean, Melody?"

Hideo's Pokemon also looked towards her, also curious - though they could actually see the expression on Melody's face.

She sighs out loud, knowing that if Uxie and Hideo REALLY wanted ot know they could just get it out of her, mental manipulations weren't necessary but the incessant prodding of the closest thing she had to a sibling child would wear her down. [break][break]

"I..Uh.." she says as Meloetta joins the crowd of pokemon staring at her. "Alright, fine. it's heavy but remember you asked to know."[break][break]

"My entire family was part of team rocket. My cousin glitch, her brother, my entire family. I guess by some association myself included. I was never formally indoctrined but that was because my mother had her claws deep in my mind. Never really even saw me as human, always referred to me as her doll". [break][break]

She looks over to her fish tank, watching her wishi washis rush around each other in a wild game of chase. "It started when my mom was pregnant with me. She was a young beautiful model, expected to have a lot of successful years of modeling ahead of her. Till I came along. She had a night of fun with my dad and then her career was destroyed. A rich watch maker from Paldea who had to marry her and take responsibility." she says as one of the wishiwashi suddenly gets tired and returns to his home inside of the fish tank leaving the other one alone. She leans back into the couch further as if trying to melt away into it. "At 8 years old my mom saw her chance, my dad left to tend to things back in paldea. My talent for music began to show itself. She saw her opportunity to live the dream she always wanted, through me. She wanted me to be the perfect idol, and to make sure I complied.." she trails off as she hated to talk about it "I was forced to feel nothing but joy, locking myself off from any other emotion. It's why you used to see me happy all the time regardless of what happen. My psychic pokemon were trained to seal away any source of sadness, anger, anything that caused me to not feel joy was removed."

Ask, and he shall receive. Hideo sat patiently, listening to Melody's tale, letting her speak it all without interruption. His Pokemon listened in too, his Beheeyem merely turning its head to listen while Uxie crawled atop Hideo's belly.

He already knew that Melody's mom was part of Rocket - she'd told him as much back when Rocket raided the Ultra Sea. Same for the part about mental manipulation - something he could gladly say his own parents never resorted to.

And he did.

"I'm…sorry you've had to go through all of that," Hideo said, looking for the right words to use. "Guess I gotta consider myself lucky my parents only tried to talk me out of doing trainer stuff. And I couldn't imagine my entire family being part of Rocket." He only had to worry about a single member - one he knew wouldn't try to hurt him (and he didn't want to hurt in turn).

"I'm still surprised you're comfortable around me and my Pokemon. I got a lotta Psychics around." His Beheeyem and Uxie included, both known to be able to mess with minds. "Heck, I even told you my Beheeyem does some stuff to me when I get stressed out."

Not always when he was aware of it, but he knew it happened. He didn't mind his own Pokemon helping him mentally like that, when it helped him stay focused.

"...you are fine with them being around, right?"

She pauses, allowing him to ask his questions. "I-..At first not really, I will be honest with you." she says "I still kind of disapprove of them messing with your memories Hideo, but I understand you feel it's necessary to forget unpleasant things but..You need to come to that conclusion yourself, I could probably tell you until im blue in the face. Even I miss it sometimes." she tells him hoping that behyeem and uxie were receptive to her. [break][break]

"Calming you down, sure. But full on making you forget things I don't approve of." she says giving her clear stance on the matter. "But your Pokémon aren't doing it maliciously, mine weren't either. They were simply doing what my mother, hell what even I taught them to do. They didn't know better." she says as the wishiwashi that escaped into it's little home peeked out and stared at the other. [break][break]

The wishiwashi quickly escapes it's home to charge at the other wishiwashi and misses, bumping his head into the glass and crying. Melody shifts over to it and tilts her head "What the fuck? Ok then. But yeah anyways, I'm fine with them being around, now that more people know about my memory problem it's also less likely to happen again."

Hideo turned his head away from Melody. He wasn't too surprised to hear she truly hadn't been that comfortable with his Pokemon, not with the history she'd shared with him at the Ultra Sea cave entrance. "To be honest, there really have been things I really wanted to forget. That weird-ass church we went into the basement of was a big one."

He was glad he couldn't recall everything about that place - even if he did sometimes question what to do with that blunderbuss he got from it, and that weird book he couldn't read. It didn't wholly remove the discomfort of thinking of that place, but the lack of details helped soften it.

"And there's still stuff that hurts to think back on…but I told them not to make me forget. I told them never to make me forget when I lost a Pokemon." His Ariados had been the biggest blow, and the ones he lost on Necrozma's arrival shattered the confidence he once had - yet he didn't want to forget them. "They're painful, and I still lose sleep some nights dreaming about them."

He faced towards Melody again. "But they've taught me to be more careful. I've made sure not to let any more of my Pokemon die since then."

The Wishiwashi bonking its head interrupted him for a moment. He had to wonder, was that Wishiwashi the sibling of the one he'd lost?

"...I'm just glad you aren't getting too mad about me telling you that stuff. I know it's kinda crazy to tell someone I let my Pokemon make me forget stuff if I want. Pretty sure some like Elga here know my mind well enough to protect me if some other Pokemon tries to make me forget stuff I don't wanna forget."

His Beheeyem looked towards him, nodding.

"And I know Uxie can help protect against mind manipulation stuff too. They do it all the time in the Ultra Sea when I'm extracting ore and stuff."

"She's that good at probing the mind huh? Can she see your memories like the others?" she asks as Melody starts to think of something regarding their earlier conversation. [break][break]

"That's also exactly why I didn't approve of it. Pain is good sometimes, being devoid of pain makes you feel like a husk, like someone detached from it all. Certainly caused me some problems making friends, have a good chat with someone, slightest disagreement, forgot it all." she explained.

"But what if helping aqua leads you to wanting to wipe more memories?"
